Lost 5 lbs By Cutting Carbs
Things that don’t have carbs.
1. Meat
2. Eggs
3. Cheese
4. Greens (Lettuce, Spinach, Celery)
5. WATER
Sounds to me like a delicious salad. My goal was to focus mostly on vegetables and water and add in eggs, cheese and meat for flavor. The results are a fairly sustainable diet. Then the carbs I do eat on a typical day come from fruit rather than grains. I will report again next week to let you know if this diet continues to work. Wish me luck avoiding stuffing, rolls and pumpkin pie. The family is having a “Turkey Trot” on Thanksgiving so I will get a 5K run in that day and plan to have small portions of my favorite Thanksgiving food.

I’ve been low carbing for about five months now, and am fully convinced it is the right thing for my body. I started out at 183 lbs and now weigh 165 lbs. It’s important to note after going on it for a week or so you will tend to lose 5-10 lbs (depending on your starting weight). This weight change is mostly due to your body releasing excess water it’s been holding on to from the built up sugar in your system. I have seen a consistent .5 to 1 lb drop each week since I’ve been on it (after the initial drop).
Good news! Pumpkin pie can be made without crust and sweetened with stevia! The main thing to keep in mind is you want to keep your carb consumption per hour below 9 grams, and keep the carb per day within 30 to 40 grams.
Eggs are great! I would say I get the bulk of my calories from eggs. You may get bored though, and when you go scrounging for low carb “treats” try to stay away from sugar alcohols, people are finding they can slow weight loss.
You will find your appetite lessens as you eat more fat. I typically eat a good sized 4 egg omelet in the morning before work (with sausage and peppers) then can really pass up lunch because I’m still not very hungry. By the time dinner rolls around I eat meat and veggies.
If you are just starting out you will feel lethargic, it is because your body is “learning” how to get the energy from fat alone. Ketones are what you will be burning instead of glucose. Your brain runs much more efficiently on ketones, but there is a conversion time when your body has to “re-calibrate). Don’t worry though, if you stick to it without cheating you will feel just as energetic (maybe even more energetic) as when you were eating sugar.
Finally, the thing to remember, Total carbs – Fiber = Net carbs. Net carbs are what you want to count.

My weight is good, I have been slacking on blogging for sure. I’m facing the challenge of writing up a detailed report for my whole “low carb” experiance. So I am procrasinating. lol
The important thing is I have been able to stick to this way of eating, even after meeting my goal. I will not lie in saying I haven’t “cheated”, but whenever I go off the wagon I am able to go back to eating low carb. Holidays are notorious for kicking people off diets, and I was concerned if I would be able to stick to it. What I have found is when I eat high carb I always feel like crap the next day, so for me to eat the way that feels better (low carb for me) is easy.
check out http://www.marksdailyapple.com for some good reading on the “paleo” diet, which is basically low carbing (with some starches).
